SYSTEM DESIGN IN THE VEGA LAUNCH VEICHLE PROGRAMS CONTEXT

VEGA PROGRAM

The VEGA project is a launch system (launch vehicle & launch base) for payloads up to 1500 kg at 700 km in SSO polar orbit. The small Vega launcher, developed by AVIO SpA, 30 meters high with a maximum diameter of 3 meters and weighing 137 tons, consists of three solid propellant stages (P80, Zefiro 23, Zefiro 9), a liquid propulsion high stage with multiple re-ignition capability (Attitude and Vernier Upper Module – AVUM) and an Upper Composite which contains one or more satellites.

The activities carried out by Siem s.r.l in the VEGA LV program context are:

VEGA LAUNCHER ELECTRIC SYSTEM

The activities involved the design, on behalf of ELV, of VEGA launcher electrical system

  • in the preliminary phase: requirement specification, layout and interconnections between the stages definition, electrical interfaces (including those with the launch base and ground instrumentation) definition and development of a software dedicated for their control, data management and reporting;
  • in the construction project phase: electrical characteristics of the various components definition , design and technical documentation production.

VEGA LAUNCHER INTERSTAGE 2/3

The activities involved the design, in collaboration with Rheinmetall Italia SpA, of VEGA launche Interstage 2/3:

  • configuration, components and interfaces definition, 3D and simulation model development, thermal and structural analysis, technical documentation production.
