SYSTEM DESIGN IN THE SOYUZ PROGRAM CONTEXT

 

SOYUZ PROGRAM

A Launch Base for the russian space rocket SOYUZ has been built in the European Space Center in French Guiana.

 

The activities carried out by Siem s.r.l for the SOYUZ program, in collaboration with Rheinmetall Italia SpA, are:

 

SOYUZ MOBILE GANTRY

The Mobile Gantry of SOYUZ launcher, in the European Space Center in French Guiana, is a steel structure of 12 floors, 53m high and weighing about 780 tons, equipped with a bridge crane, mobile platforms and a translation system, which allows to retract about 80m before space rocket launch.

The activities involved the project and mechanical and electrical subsystems interfaces management:

  • requirement specification, technical specifications and subsystems analysis
  • suppliers management during the implementation phase, on-site integration activity and testing 

MOBILE GANTRY SUBSYSTEMS

The activities involved the design and implementation of translation system, electrical system, air conditioning system, RIA anti fire system and the parts completing the mechanical structure

  • Project: requirement and technical specifications definition, design and construction drawing
  • Implementation and acceptance test: suppliers management, on-site integration activity and testing

SOYUZ QUALIFICATION CAMPAIGN

The activities involved a qualified technicians team commitment for the Mobile Gantry translation during the qualification tests and the launch campaign of the first VS01 flight.

FIRE DETECTION AND EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM

Design and implementation of the fire detection and extinguishing system inside the electrical technical rooms of entire SOYUZ launch base.

  • Project: subsystems technical specifications definition, mechanical and electrical interfaces definition
  • Implementation: suppliers management during the implementation phase, on site integration activities and testing management.
