The RICAD is a system for measuring the dynamic load to which sleepers are subjected during the convoys transit on the rail. RICAD was entirely designed, developed and manufactured by Siem S.r.l..
The main functions of RICAD are::
- measurement of the axial load Q(t) transmitted by the wheel to the sleepers (for axle and right/left wheel), with the verification of any wheel faceting and with the highlighting of the maximum value Qmax recorded for each transit;
- calculation of the average transit speed of the convoy;
- detection of the number of axles of the train;
- determination of the direction of travel of the convoy
The data relating to each train is acquired in real time and subsequently processed locally by RICAD. The result of the processing is then stored in a local backup archive and sent on request to the data collection center (CRD).
Currently 40 RICAD stations have been installed in the various interconnections/entrances of the sections of the Italian High Speed Railway line:
-
- Rome-Naples
- Turin-Milan
- Florence-Bologna
- Milan-Bologna
